Dala team gives back

“Alone, we can do so little; together, we can do so much” – Helen Keller.

Volunteer work is our favorite way to give back to the community that constantly supports us. Dala would not exist without the shared effort of our team, our clients and our community, so every quarter the team picks an organization or charity to volunteer at for one day. Recently, we have been given the opportunity to work for a number of diverse and inspiring local businesses and charities in the Dallas-Fort Worth area.

Fall 2022

Dress for Success Dallas is an organization that works to empower women to achieve financial independence by providing professional attire, developmental tools and a network of support. As a certified Woman-Owned agency that often focuses on female empowerment, the Dala team was ecstatic to volunteer for Dress for Success by sorting donations.

Winter 2022

Every holiday season, the team selects an angel from the Angel Tree to gather donations for. Angel Tree is a charity hosted by the Salvation Army during the holiday season. Donors from the community are able to pick an “angel” from the tree which has a wish list of items that “angel” has requested.

Spring 2023

This spring, the Dala team is volunteering at the City of Plano Animal Shelter which provides adoption and a variety of other services to ensure the health and well-being of all animal and human citizens. The Dala team will be supporting the staff by cleaning dishes, assisting with laundry, scooping poop and organizing donations or storage and a variety of other projects.

The Importance of Giving Back

Our community is our foundation and the reason that we are able to do our jobs. Maintaining healthy, respectful community relations is imperative to earning public trust. It is also a mutually beneficial affair. Businesses that participate in efforts of public service are more likely to gain credibility within that community while the subject of the volunteer work benefits from both publicity and free labor. These acts of volunteerism are also low-cost and high-reward. Business owners, charity organizers and organization leaders are more likely to seek help from people whom they have interacted with when they seek external aid, and providing service to them is a networking opportunity that can place your business in an advantageous position against competitors. Volunteerism is not only about the potential for personal gain, though. It is fulfilling on a personal level as well, and it provides an opportunity for a team to work together on an external project for the same cause.

How agencies/companies can use this as team-building/a reason to get out of the office and do something hands on

“If you want to go quickly, go alone. If you want to go far, go together.” – African Proverb

Volunteerism is dense with opportunities  not only for business advancement within the community but also for interpersonal growth amongst coworkers. The Dala team is made up of four to five members, and each quarter one member chooses  the charity of their choice to volunteer with. Our team has found these events to be not only a way to build awareness and credibility concerning the company, but also a way to foster relationships between team members outside of the workplace.

Oftentimes, teams are limited to strictly in-office relationships. Volunteerism provides a space outside of the office where coworkers are able to work together for a common good. It also provides an opportunity to do something hands-on that team members believe in or are passionate about. There really is no pitfall to volunteering as a team, and here at Dala we make it a point to choose organizations, charities and businesses that we believe in.
